Have you ever seen an Audi vehicle bearing a “TDI” badge and wondered what it meant? Audi TDI cars allow drivers to achieve great fuel economy and deliver exceptional power at the same time. The TDI technology is one clear example of the engineering and design prowess upon which Audi built its name. Want to learn more? Keep reading for an overview of the Audi TDI technology, including the science behind it, the results and models for which TDI technology is available!
TDI stands for “Turbocharged direct injection.” It’s really the combination of two engine technologies: turbocharging and direct injection. The latter technology sprays diesel fuel directly into the combustion chamber for each cylinder under the hood in your Audi, hence the name. At the same time, the turbocharger, powered by the force of the exhaust, forces incoming air into your car’s engine
The result of this combination of technologies is more complete combustion. That in turn results in an engine with greater torque and greater efficiency. But that’s not all! TDI also allows for fewer emissions. With TDI engines, drivers can save at the pump and drive with a conscience without sacrificing any of the power or luxury handling that Audi cars are known for.
The TDI engine technology is available on the Audi A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 Q3, Q5, Q7, and TT models. Contact the team at Audi Memphis to learn which Audi TDI models are currently available in the Memphis area, or browse our current inventory to find the right model for you.
